Start with the network your destination accepts
If you are sending USDT to a wallet or exchange, start with its receiving instructions. Do not select a network solely because of the advertised fee. The destination must support that particular asset on that particular network.
Tether identifies USD₮ deployments on Ethereum and TRON in its official protocol list. In this deposit context, ERC20 commonly refers to Ethereum and TRC20 to TRON. Read the full network name as well as the abbreviation.
Three checks before sending
- Asset and network: compare the recipient's instructions with the withdrawal or send screen. Stop if they do not match.
- Receiving address: copy the address the destination supplies for that network. The token contract is not your deposit address.
- Cost and received amount: review current fees, any deposit minimum and the final amount. An exchange's withdrawal charge need not equal the network fee for a transfer from your own wallet.
For example, if a deposit screen specifies USDT on Ethereum, do not select TRON just because withdrawing looks cheaper. If the destination accepts both, compare its current conditions before deciding.
Verify the contract without confusing it with the recipient
Open the issuer's official documentation and locate the section for the specific network. Compare the contract with the explorer linked from that source. The USDT symbol and logo do not identify an asset by themselves.

Switching wallet networks does not move your USDT
Selecting another network changes what you are viewing. Moving assets between chains requires a compatible process, such as a service supporting both endpoints or a bridge offering that route. Review its conditions and risks separately. This guide does not assume Latin Link offers every cross-chain transfer.

What not to assume
No network is universally best for every destination. Nor should you apply Ethereum or TRON conditions automatically to a token called USDT on another chain. Its provenance may differ: see USDT, USDT0 and bridged versions.
